A fraudster who was imprisoned and penalized for internet fraud last year has escaped from the Nsawam maximum prisons.
Maurice Asola Fadola escaped from the prison last week. Sources within the Prisons Service said the issue is generating uneasiness within the service as an instruction has been issued for his re-arrest before the matter becomes public.
Fadola last year defrauded some British widows and pensioners of about £800,000. He reportedly posed as an Army General who needed money for emergency medical services.
He was subsequently arrested and hit with a five-year jail term by the Financial Division of the High court in Accra after his victims filed a complaint of his activities with the police . Fadola was also convicted on 28 counts of defrauding by false pretenses.
